Too many people sit in their vehicles with the engine running.
In the city of Santa Cruz this is a violation of Santa Cruz City ordinance No. 2015-05?
“It is unlawful to idle an engine for more than 90 seconds”
Car exhaust fumes contain poisonous chemicals, including carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, formaldehyde, benzene and soot, all of which are unhealthy.
Idling also wastes energy and produces unnecessary greenhouse gases. It’s a hazard for current and future young people.
We plan to start passing out flyers asking people to shut off their engines.
Idling is particularly bad at local schools as parents wait for their kids. We will get permission from the school administration before handing out materials on any campus.
We have downloadable quarter sheets flyers and a two sided card format
DON’T IDLESC – Quarter sheet for use in Santa Cruz
DON’T IDLEco – Quarter sheet for use outside city boundaries
